The Rainforest World Music Festival 2018

Posted: 11/07/2018

Set within a traditional cultural village and surrounded by ancient forests and mountains, the Rainforest World Music Festival offers festival-goers a great vibe and beautiful music to enjoy with family and friends.

The festival is a much-anticipated signature annual event held in Sarawak for music lovers. Don’t miss the opportunity to watch and listen live to your favourite jammers and singers coming from all around the world! Afternoon shows take place on an indoor stage, with daily drum circles in the evenings. At night, performers take to three outdoor stages to share their music with everyone.

This year’s festival brings you the “Queen of Carimbo” Dona Onete, a musician from Brazil and Indian acts Bhungar Khan Company with a mixture of traditional Persian and Punjab music, along with Raghu Dixit Project’s infectious but happy songs. Meanwhile, Poland’s Volosi brings to audiences its combination of classical virtuoso techniques, rock energy and jazz improvisation melodies. Coming from Europe for the first time is Spanish-born Alberto Marin with his amazing guitar performance and dramatic dance.

Local talents will also be performing including At Adau who will entrance audiences with their spirit of Sarawak musical influences. Sada Borneo will share their soothing sounds of nature that fuses traditional and ethnic melodies with modern arrangements. Also, SwarAsia Malaysia, with his ancient and modern instruments, will showcase the mood and the essence of various cultures through music.

Korea’s Naedrum will fascinate audiences with their dances, acrobatics, chants and drumming, while Indonesia’s GayaGayo is ready to showcase their unique “Saman” dance, which combines hand-clapping, chest- and thigh-slapping, ground-stamping, finger-snapping, body-twisting, head-swaying dance movements along with the shifting musical rhythms.

From the East of Asia comes China’s Mountain Men of Yunnan, Shanren, and their indigenous music and instruments that create an alternative form of folk and rock music.
